100 Million Noise Measurements

The WoopWoop system has now processed and stored in excess of 100 million individual noise level measurements since 2019. Thank you to all our valued clients who have entrusted their noise survey work to the Joey/WoopWoop platform.

For something a little different, here is an astrophotograph of a Joey in an environmental case with solar panel sitting high above the ground and dense grass on an old fence post. Lights from a passing plane and a few stars are visible.

Sound Camera

We are happy to announce we have developed an App to run inside AXIS CCTV cameras to display noise levels in real-time. Initial deployment of this system is at a motor racing track to identify noisy vehicles and to address Council regulatory requirements. The camera can be configured to send videos, photos and audio following an exceedance of noise limits, (including the period before and after the exceedance event.)

All Joey units have the latest software release and are able to power the Sound Camera.

Joey Sound Camera

Optionally, the Joey Sound Camera App can be combined with the AXIS number plate recognition or the AXIS directional microphones to enable noise source tracking and identification

Mangrove logger

This noise logger is situated in a coastal area within mangroves and only just above high-tide. Deployed January 2023 and having 100% uptime to the cloud. Special feature of this build is that all cables are retained within the steel tubes and the microphone is located on top of the supporting post. This ensures no solar deterioration of all important cables. The post is in two parts. The upper part (comprising all the electronics, case etc) is dropped into the lower part rammed deep into the marine sediments. Thus this ‘permanent’ solution is able to be relocated relatively easily.

Network support

Some of our clients are asking about using Joey internationally. Joey was designed from the outset to be be used internationally and as at 26 April 2023, the following describes where in the world it can be used and carriers supported. Naturally, consult the coverage maps in these countries. If you are outside these places and or coverage maps, we also have a satellite solution.

For Joey system having a date of manufacture after April 2022.

Joey runs on 2G/3G and 4G LTE Cat 1, supporting LTE bands 1, 3, 7, 8, 20 & 28A (700, 800, 900, 1800, 2100, and 2600), as well as HSPA/WCDMA 3G bands 1 & 8 (900, 2100) and GSM 2G (900, 1800). This is designed to operate in selected countries in Europe, Middle East, Africa, and Asia (EMEAA), including Australia and New Zealand.

Support for United States, Canada, Mexico is available but will require Joey to be requested when ordering. Joey for United States, Canada, Mexico supports 4G LTE Cat M1. In the United States, Joey devices use LTE Cat M1 on the AT&T network. In all locations that AT&T supports LTE on their own network (not roaming and not a partner carrier), LTE Cat M1 should also be supported. In Mexico, AT&T Mexico is used for LTE Cat M1. In Canada, any of Rogers, Telus, or Bell is used for LTE Cat M1.

For Joey system having a date of manufacture before April 2022 and not upgraded to the latest modem.

Joey uses 2G/3G with frequency bands 850, 900, 1800, 1900, 2100.

For comprehensive details of countries and carriers, refer to this supported network description.

Customer Case

Final testing on a sunny spring morning of two customer portable cases. In this instance the customer supplied their preferred cases and we installed our fitout. This works really well and does not affect the functionality .

System testing

Here is a bunch of permanent loggers undergoing final full system testing on a sunny winter day here in Brisbane prior to deployment around a large industrial site. Congrats to the site and looking forward to demonstrating compliance with Licensing conditions.

Quick Deploy

We are please to announce the quick deploy feature for all Joey systems. A QR code is generated on the web site and assigned to each Joey. Quick deploy will greatly simplify deployment of loggers and eliminate the requirements for only those registered on WoopWoop to deploy/assign the equipment.

The steps to use comprise:

  1. On the WoopWoop website there will be a link to a unique QR code image and assigned to each Joey. The unique QRCode can be regenerated/replaced at any time for security purposes.
  2. The QR code image may be downloaded, printed and laminated and retained in the environmental case.
  3. When deploying a logger the person in the field will scan the QR code using their mobile phone and this will automatically create a site and assign the logger to the site.  The mobile phone’s GPS sets deployment location.
  4. The person deploying does not need to be registered nor logged into WoopWoop to undertake these tasks.
  5. The person deploying the logger then turns the unit on, waits for confirmation on the phone.

New Product Joey+

We are pleased to announce a new version of Joey, known as Joey+ (or Joey Plus). Joey plus adds a Power over Ethernet (PoE) RJ45 connector. This very exiting development will allow the Joey+ to be powered by the Ethernet cable.

Subscription costs for Joey+ are the same as for Joey. All new Joey units from 1 July 2022 can be upgraded to Joey+ by returning to the factory.

The use cases of Joey+ include:

  • connection to external modems (including satellite modems) for very remote installs,
  • connection to internet via ground networks (with mobile fallback)
  • connection to industrial networks
  • connection with industrial controllers
  • connection to PoE security camera networks, and
  • insert noise charts overlay on video feeds

Revised Prices.

Prices for the environmental cases have increased for all new orders from July 2022. This price increase is in response to increases in component costs. There has also been a minor increase in the cost of Joeys. Subscription costs remain unchanged.

Archive Sites

A new feature has been added to the web site. Sites that are no longer active may be archived. This removes the site from various displays, but does not delete any data. The site may be recovered at any time and made an active site again.

API Released

The API to permit that allows for access to WoopWoop.online logging data from external software. This enables noise logging data to be obtained automatically and added to your database. Refer to the help files for API function calls and response
